24 - The Strength of a Woman Pt. 2

I gave my power away
I gave it to strangers on the street
I gave it to kids in the classroom
I gave it to the boys I liked
I gave it to my family

When I gave my power to my brother
he tied a bow on it
he handed it back to me
he told me
This is not mine to take
And this is not yours to give away
This is your power
You must learn to claim it

I held it awkwardly in my hands
My power to claim

I tested it out endlessly
I opened doors of anger
I opened doors of honor
I felt the power of courage
I felt myself fall to my knees with fear

I learned that to claim your power is to heal
I learned that healing is messy
