89 - Soulmate

I hope when I find my soulmate
he will know me the way
the paper knows me.

Nothing lights me up
like a blank canvas.

It sits with me four hours on end
as I pour my heart onto the page.
Nothing I ever do is
too much for it to handle.
It holds space for
all my emotions.

It has seen me in all my forms.
And has never been scared off.
Not from the tears to
the frustrations.
The loneliness
or contemplation.
The openness
or the over
eager excitement.

It lets me experiment
and it never holds any judgment.

It’s something of a dance we do.
I lay down the colors
and it lets them shine.

I hope my soulmate will be patient with
me like the paper is when I
am figuring things out.

I hope he will be able to embrace all
of my layers and intricate details.

And just as no drawing is the same,
no day is the same with me either.
I hope he will be up for that adventure.

I hope he will be consistent and reliable
as I am none of those things,
but I am open to learn.

I hope we will navigate problems with
a sense of ease the way I do with the paper.
Like when I spill a blob of ink all over my fine details.
Or when I color outside of the lines.
We work together blending it into something new.
The accidents become inspiration.
And there is usually a lot of laughter involved.

I hope he will always
remain open like the paper.
Ready to embrace any idea.

I hope he will stay
with me until the end,
knowing that even
the messy parts will
somehow get worked out.
How the light and dark
will blend together
beautifully creating
a masterpiece
that could take a
lifetime to complete.

However
most of all,
I hope he will
understand
that no true work
of art can ever
really be
finished.
