94 - Little Artist

Test your limitations
to know what you are
capable of.

Peel back the layers
to discover who
you really are.

WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD YOU KNEW WHAT YOU WANTED.
As you get older, life has a way of twisting you into thinking it isn’t possible.

My elementary school art teacher loves to tell the story of
how when I was in kindergarten,
I ran up to her with my curly hair flying every which way.
I looked up at her as I said very seriously,
“Ms. Peachin, are we ever
going to use anything besides crayons?”

I don’t remember asking this.
I only know this story because she tells it to me
when I run into her.
And that is how I know,
I didn’t choose to be an artist.
IT CHOSE ME.
It chose me before I knew how to read or write.
It chose me before I had a chance to choose anything else.
