Sometimes late at night I talk to Lady Universe.
I ask her for advice, and she always gives it.
Sometimes she just listens when all I have to say is thank you.

And she smiles sweetly as she tells me the same thing each time,

Sometimes I ask her if I am worthy of all my hopes and dreams. She tells me,

everyone is willing to put in the time and effort it takes to
achieve them. So it isn’t that you aren’t worthy at
all. It is that you haven’t earned them yet.”

Sometimes I ask her what I must do to be deserving of love. She tells me,
“Love is not something you must work for. Love is not something
you earn. Love is your birthright. Love is something that is all around you. Sometimes it shows up in the smallest gestures, like a smile or a hug.
Sometimes it’s bigger like someone being there when you need them.
And it looks different with each person. When you feel you must work
for love, then it is no longer love, it is possession. But you know this already. Because think of the people in your life you love the most. Think of the way you share every detail of your life with them. And how they love you more for it because sharing yourself is a way of showing them you trust them, you need them, and they are a part of you. Love is listening to someone and letting them be who they are and wanting to be closer to them because of it. The same goes for romantic love. And I have given you so many chances to experience it, but each time you pushed them away when they got too close. But it’s not something to be upset with yourself about. You are learning. You had an idea of what love was supposed to look like. Which is why you missed the real love that was right in front of you. So my advice to you is to take some time and learn what it looks like for you to love yourself the way you love your friends and your family. Because when you let someone into the very deepest part of your heart is when they become a part of you. And you will treat them the way you treat yourself. And if you want to treat them kindly, you must learn to treat yourself kindly first.
